Montréal is becoming a real international hotbed of creativity, with progressive ideas in many fields. We have fantastic food, cheap rent, crazy nightlife, lots of underground cultural happenings—and Montrealers are a pretty sexy bunch, if we do say so ourselves. Oh yeah, and winter here is great, if you’re a masochist or a snowboarder, that is.

As Amsterdam goes, the previous paragraph applies if you replace the word “cheap rent” by “shockingly high rent” and “snowboarder” by “lifelong Londoner”.

COME FROM

Entrepreneurial, Independent, Allergic to the status quo.

Our company began very modestly in 1993: a bunch of students got together to launch an agency because they couldn’t even get an interview at traditional agencies. With no portfolio, no experience, no clients and no money (except for a $6,000 loan each), we set out to learn the craft. We worked hard, made a few mistakes, but were lucky enough to have clients who supported us in our quest to explore new ways of doing things.

Every time the going was good, we elected to transform the company to embrace change and avoid the false comfort of the status quo. Sid Lee has therefore repeatedly morphed

itself—sometimes taking bold risks—to better adapt to changing consumers, technologies and markets. We were one of the trailblazers in interactive marketing (it almost killed us during the .com collapse) and we continue to explore new ideas by venturing into such nascent realms such as experiential marketing, industrial design and product development for brands.

We cherish our modest roots because they taught us to really appreciate how lucky we are to be together, to work with prestigious clients and to have fun in the process… and to never sit on our laurels.

With Sid Lee since 2006 and having a passion for digital communications and content. The branded content produced by his team far surpasses the limits of traditional methods of communication. Stephane is in charge of the branded content for the whole Sid lee offices.

ERIC ALPER

Vice-President, Strategy, Partner

Alper heads large-scale strategic planning engagements. He wields a rigorous approach that merges strategy consulting & communications planning practices. Over his tenure at Sid Lee, he has proven his approach with a global portfolio of clients spanning an array of categories.

ALEX BERNIER

Creative Director, Partner

Alex Bernier joined Sid Lee in 2003 as a copywriter, where he worked on accounts like Réno-Dépôt, Loto-Québec and the Fantasia Film Festival. In 2009, he was named co-creative director on the Videotron and Lotto 6/49 accounts. In 2012, he was promoted to creative director of Montreal’s advertising department and became a partner.

JEAN-FRANÇOIS BOUCHARD

President, Senior Partner

Co-founder of Sid Lee, Jean-François has been leading the agency for 15 years. An entrepreneur at heart and a seasoned strategist, he believes that creativity is the catalyst to developing successful businesses and building strong brands.

BERTRAND CESVET

Chairman, Senior Partner

As chairman and senior partner, Bertrand Cesvet oversees our European operations and counsels clients on business and marketing strategy. He is the author of Conversational Capital: How to Create Stuff People Love to Talk About.

In 2009, Johan Delpuech decided to take part in a new adventure with the launch of the Sid Lee Parisian atelier. Very curious, always looking out for new ideas, Johan combines excellent strategic skills, a great sense of organisation and a true passion for creation.

A member of the Sid Lee team since 2005, Dutch-native Lukas chose to make Montréal home. Playing in both the creative and strategic arenas, Lukas is well-versed in experiential and non-traditional communications.

As Global communications VP, Yanik Deschênes’ main mission is to promote Sid Lee and spread the word around the globe. Yanik has over 15 years of experience in the industry and holds an accreditation in Public Relations delivered by the Canadian Public Relations Society.

ANNICK DÉSY

Vice-President, Human Resources, Partner

After eight years as the Director of consulting services, this natural-born leader knows Sid Lee inside out, has a deep understanding of the agency's stakeholders and their needs, and sincerely believes in the importance of managing human beings rather than resources, making her the ideal candidate for the position of Vice-President of Human Resources.

FRANÇOIS FORGET

Vice-President, Strategy, Partner

During his 30-year career, François has held the positions of Media Planner, Public Relations Consultant, Copywriter, Creative Director, Strategic Planner, and Vice-President/Agency Director, working with numerous clients. After starting his own consulting business, François joined Sid Lee in 2012 as Vice President of Strategy.

Director of Financial Operations, Partner

Daniel Fortier is responsible for managing operational budgets and finances. An entrepreneur at heart, he founded two companies specializing in multimedia before joining Sid Lee in 1999 as partner and vice-president.

Vice-President, Account Group, Partner

In 1996, Jean-François Fortin joined Sid Lee. He has held several positions in account services before being named vice-president and partner. Over the years, he has contributed to the success of numerous assignments.

MARTIN GAUTHIER

A multimedia pioneer in Canada, Martin Gauthier boasts over 15 years experience in the field. As a member of the Sid Lee team since 1999, Martin’s progressive views on media and relationship marketing have greatly influenced the agency.

As artistic and creative director, Hélène Godin is a respected and well-known professional in the design world internationally. She has worked to develop the brand identity of several of Sid Lee’s clients.

A member of the Sid Lee team since 1999, François Lacoursière is responsible for planning and overall management of mandates. He takes great interest in the evolution of experiential marketing.

Mac Macdonald joined Sid Lee in 2013 having previously worked his way - literally - around the world on behalf of brands such as: IBM, Nikon, Starbucks, and Visa. This adventure has moulded Mac into a truly global citizen, and an invaluable source of informed, diverse, and eclectic perspectives on the delivery of innovative consumer experiences.

As Sid Lee’s partner and creative director since 2000, Kris has put his creativity to good use, seamlessly merging graphic design and new media. A multidisciplinary soul at heart, Kris rejects boundaries between disciplines.

Co-founder of Sid Lee, Philippe Meunier is responsible for the agency’s creative output. Sid Lee has received numerous international awards thanks to his holistic, multidisciplinary approach.

YANN MOONEY

A UQAM graduate, Yann has built his reputation as one of the best imaginative thinkers of the decade, and has an insight for integrating interactive and print design as well as creative technology, advertising and architecture for our major clients. Yann has been a key influencer since joining Sid Lee.

ALEXANDRE PASINI

Head of Strategy, Partner

A member of the Sid Lee team since 2003, Montreal-native Alex exported Sid Lee across the Atlantic and to Europe. He believes that simple yet not simplistic strategy yields great creativity and even greater results.

VITO PIAZZA

Toronto President, Partner

As vice-president and partner, Vito Piazza manages important mandates and provides senior strategy counsulting to key clients. Over the course of his 14-year marketing career, Vito has contributed to numerous integrated campaigns, both nationally and internationally.

With Sid Lee since 2003, Julie Provençal was named Vice-President, Account Services, Operations in 2011. She shares her expertise that she acquired over the years with major clients such as Cirque du Soleil with the Montreal Account Services group.

UK native Dave Roberts joined Sid Lee in 2005. After stints as creative director in Sid Lee’s Montreal and Amsterdam ateliers, he now serves as executive creative director of Sid Lee Toronto where he creates work for traditional media, new media channels, and everything in between.

GÉRARD TARDIF

CFO, Partner

A certified management accountant (CMA), Gérard Tardif has more than 25 years of cross-functional senior management experience. A natural leader with a talent for getting the best out of his team, Gérard joined Sid Lee in 2011.

SYLVAIN THIRACHE

Executive Creative Director, Manager and Partner

After 5 years as the Head of Creation at DDB and winning several international prizes, Sylvain decided to switch careers and embrace Sid Lee’s creative vision. In 2009, the Paris atelier opened its doors.

WILL TRAVIS

USA President, Senior Partner

Born in the UK, Will Travis starts an early successful business career. Appointed President and World Partner of ATTIK–acquired by Dentsu in 2008–Will helps develop the London firm on an international level. He is passionate with extreme sports and considers leadership as one of them. His goal now is to bring Sid Lee New York up to the heights of success.

NICOLAS VAN ERUM

Vice-President, Partner

Nicolas Van Erum co-leads the public and media relations division of Sid Lee. A McGill University graduate, Nicolas held high-level positions at companies such as Cloudraker and Cossette, dealing with prestigious national and international clients.
